Discovering Montenegro

The Montenegro becomes striding leading tourist destination. It is clear that nature was not stingy with the country, which boasts of iconic sites like the sumptuous Bay of Kotor and beautiful bustling beaches.


The combination of sea and mountain

In addition to a swimsuit, it is important to provide walking shoes because the wild and rugged hinterland has nothing to envy to the Adriatic coast.
Fierce Mountains dominate gentle valleys, glacial lakes, gorges and villages where life goes at the same pace as before. A network of hiking and cycling trails expanding and modernized infrastructure make the area more accessible, while providing employment to the people.
Along the coast, the Montenegrin government has rolled out the red carpet for foreign investors. Resulted in large-scale projects in the image of the luxury marina Porto Montenegro in Tivat, and the pretty village of Sveti Stefan restored together with a beach resort near Budva.

Independent since 2006, Montenegro already aspires to become a full member of the international community and has applied for membership in the European Union and NATO. The country's currency is the euro.

ESSENTIALS

Five national parks highlight the outstanding natural beauty of Montenegro.
He Durmitor massif protects a peak at over 2500 m. Populated by bears and wolves, it contains the ski slopes and the Tara canyon, the deepest gorge in Europe (1900 m), suitable for rafting.
In the park Biogradska Gora nearby, a hike through the rainforest leads to an alpine lake with multiple shades of blue.
Lined with lilies, Skadar Lake as meanwhile the largest bird reserves in Europe. After a mind-blowing ascension drive, Lovćen reward the brave with views encompassing the whole country.
Wild and remote, the newest park Prokletije, on the border with Albania, includes some of the highest mountains of the Balkans.

Holidays and festivals Montenegrins

  • In early August, dances and songs resonate happily at the International Kotor Summer Carnival that ends with a parade and street party all night.
  • In October, grueling Montenegro Expedition Challenge sees 48 hours of the adventurers from around the world to measure their endurance in events kayaking, rafting, biking and Tree climbing.
  • In July and August, the festival Budva Theatre City program plays, classical music concerts, art exhibitions and poetry readings.

Recently in Montenegro ...

After a day of sunbathing on the beach, there is a tendency today to contemplate the sunset over the Adriatic with a drink and dance with a hundred other revelers as part of a "after -Beach party ". During the summer, the resorts are home to some 300 festivals of this type, sometimes hosted by celebrity DJs like David Guetta, Sam Divine and Jamie Lewis.

EVERYONE IN THE NEWS in Montenegro

The economy, social inequality and corruption make the headlines. In 2012, thousands of Montenegrins took to the streets to protest against rising energy prices, regional disparities and unemployment. Protesters denounced the government in the pay of businessmen and foreign investors. The will to forward the EU and NATO has finally pushed the country's leaders to adopt anti-corruption measures.

  • National Park Lovcen home to Mount Crna Gora ("Black Mountain"), which gave its name to Montenegro.
  • Water Tara is drinking.
  • Montenegro has more than 150 peaks over 2,000 m.
  • Skadar lake is among the few nesting sites of the Dalmatian pelican, an endangered species.
  • Montenegro has not established minimum legal age to consume alcohol.

NOWHERE ELSE ...

At the heart of the ski resort of Kolasin stands the Hall of Memory, one of the finest remnants of Communist architecture of the former Yugoslavia. This futuristic concrete building with angular geometric shapes was designed in 1976 by the Slovenian Marko Mušič to commemorate the role the city played in the resistance during World War II. Despite its deteriorated condition, it contains municipal offices and could be converted into the convention center.
