Poland # 1: Visit Krakow

Back from my second trip of the year, after Sicily in February, Poland, and especially Krakow in April. It is with great pleasure that I write the first article of this trip, city of Krakow, I would have the opportunity to write more articles especially on two landmark visits of my trip, a visit to Auschwitch-Birkeneu and the salt mine in Wieliczka.

Perhaps you will ask me, why why Poland and Krakow? A friend who visited this city a few years ago that made me part of the beauty of this city. After some research I realized that my travel was very interesting effect and provided numerous benefits. Besides the low cost of airfare and low prices of the country, Krakow is really a beautiful city, for evidence, instead of Krakow was elected, there a few months, most beautiful place in the world by Travel 24 ( no less!).
Begin this tour of Krakow by side "organization." The best way to reach this city from France is, of course, flying. As I told you earlier, it's easy to find flights to Krakow at attractive prices. Do not hesitate to use a compare flights you will find air tickets at the best prices. You land at the airport John Paul 2 Once out of the airport a shuttle waiting for you to reach the city center. A bus will, nevertheless, nearly 50 minutes until its terminus, where you descend to the center of town. It will cost you 4 zlotys. Once at the terminal, you will find so close to the station, shopping center "Gallery Krakowska" and a tram stop. To reach the city center, nothing more simple, two options are available to you, tram or walking. Indeed if your hotel is located in the city center, you can get there very quickly, between 10 and 15 minutes.
  • The Polish currency is the zloty. A zloty is about 4 times less than a euro. One euro is therefore 4 zlotys and 0.20 zloty euro. Quick tip, if you have neither the time nor the desire to change your money in France, no problem, once you get to the airport changed a few euros, between 5 and 10 euros maximum. You will have enough money to reach the city center where you will find numerous bureaux de change, where Kantor of the exchange rate is much more interesting has the airport.
The city center is not very extensive, it is surrounded by a park that defines the center of the periphery. Given the prices of hotels, I urge you not to hesitate to take a hotel in the city center. It's so nice to walk in the evening it would be a shame to end up outside the ring of greenery. Continuing our tour of Krakow by the inevitable this city.

Visit Krakow be missed

The Main Market Square in Kraków

You'll understand the inevitable rise of this city is, of course, his place. The Main Market Square. The largest medieval square in Europe and also one of the most beautiful. You will find the Rynek Glowny, huge monument adorning the place is also a covered market and a former market sheets. Kościół Mariacki, Notre-Dame-Sainte-Marie dominating the square is one of the most beautiful churches in the city.
On this site you will find many restaurants and cafes where it is very nice to relax in the afternoon to street performances or evening, away from the cold under the covers and heaters available on the terraces . On the outskirts of this city you will find charming little streets filled with bars and restaurants.

Wawel Castle and Cathedral

Krakow was long the capital of Poland and that until the fourteenth century. It is in this city that were won numerous Polish kings. This is after the royal road, connecting instead of Krakow Wawel Hill, now called Grodzka that this castle and cathedral that is. This site is truly one of the unmissable your visit to Krakow.
You will discover at first, the Wawel Cathedral, a Gothic cathedral that was rebuilt in the fourteenth century. It was in this cathedral that were crowned the kings of Poland.
Next to the cathedral is the Wawel Castle. Really impressive for its size and beauty, the castle was rebuilt in the fifteenth century, reflects the past of Poland. It served for many purposes, royal palaces, barracks, warehouse, it has been totally renovated. While visiting you will have the opportunity to travel to magnificent royal apartments, tapestries, paintings and period furniture.

  • The Wawel hill is divided into 10 guided tours.
Visiting the castle is divided into six visits. The tour of the royal apartments, the treasures of the crown and armories, art objects oriental Lost Wawel, the dragon's lair, and Sandomierska turn.
A visit to the cathedral is divided into four visits, the cathedral, royal tombs, and Sigismund bell cathedral museum. Times and prices vary visits. For the royal apartments we paid 30 zlotys per person for the tour and 30 Zoltys for audio guide. The latter is very guides you through the castle or cathedral. The castle opens at 6am. I advise you to go relatively early, the number of tickets is limited for some visits.

And many more ...

The duration of my trip did not allow me to see everything, but if you can go and visit these few places: two universities, the Collegium Maius, we have not had time to do the tour but have nevertheless , could come in and look at the beautiful interior as well as some buildings and Kollataja court collegium. Many churches, in addition to St. Mary's Church, on the square, the Church of St. Adalbert or Corpus Christi Church are churches that are worth a visit. Other places we regret not having visited (you need to be able to return), the Jewish quarter of Krakow, Kazimierz. Highly recommended by many people met there, he is one of the places where we need to go.

Restaurants in Krakow

Gastronomy and dishes I could taste in Krakow certainly give place to a future article. However, I must advise you some places where you should go. Traditional dining in Krakow is not an easy thing. In fact I found a lot of Italian restaurants, French but relatively few traditional Polish restaurants.
Here are some of the restaurants in Krakow that particularly impressed me.
First two restaurants, the café Magia 3 Plac Mariacki in Krakow. a typical restaurant where you can taste traditional Polish cuisine in a pleasant setting, under a canopy listening to French music sitting on sofas. I ate delicious Pierogis.
Another restaurant that I enjoyed the Staropolska located on the main square of Krakow, the setting is really great, the interior is completely made of wood, Polish musicians play traditional Polish songs. The dishes, traditional, cooked with a wood fire.
Last restaurant on my list, the one that impressed me the most, the Chlopskie Jadlo located 3 Swietego Jana, this typical restaurant is located in a small street off the main square. Excellent restaurant, the best of our stay, we were able to enjoy Placki typical Polish dish so delicious.
Restaurant prices are very reasonable in Krakow, count 10-15 euros for a good restaurant.
