Fumaroles, hot tubs and other hot sources: Earth sometimes funny ways of showing us his power.

Rift Valley (Ethiopia)

Rift Valley, the "cradle of humanity", is a long fault 6,500 km long stretching from the Middle East to Mozambique. It forms at the level of Ethiopia , an active seismic zone that results in inhospitable terrain. In the northwest of the country, the Danakil Depression is an enamelled bowl saline lakes, more than 100 m below sea level, where temperatures reach 50 ° C. If you find this too fresh, cross the salt plain to Dallol volcano, which last erupted in 1926, and where the hot springs gush salty. When the water evaporates, the salt crystallized, forming structures color white, red and yellow due to the presence of sulfur and potassium.
No period is not particularly conducive to the discovery of the Danakil, where the mercury soars throughout the year. For safety and convenience, book from a reputable tour operator.

Try to find the source in winter, when tourist traffic is low and the effects of steam are chilling.
